TABASKI AND THE GCE
The
2024 – 2025 academic year in Cameroon actually looks shorter than previous
ones. This is because of the seemingly close National examination dates.
However, things are actually just going back to their norms as the impact of
COVID-19 pandemic.
Not
only was the academic seeming unusual but the actual examination procedures and
timetables were modified. On the GCE timetable which we are focussing on, for
this write-up, there was a complete revision which left most students baffled
and questioning “WHY?” However, the real issue on ground in the fact that this
timetable means students should be in examination halls on their benches on the
06th of June 2025 whereas this is the expected date for the “TABASKI
FEAST”. To this effect, a ministerial “Press Release” signed of course by the
Cameroon Minister of Secondary Education, Pr. NALOVA LYONGA, has been signed to
modify the said examination timetable. The picture below presents a copy of the
signed Press Release.
According
to the press release, not only the GCE but all exams under the Ministry of
Secondary Education that were programmed to take place on the 06th
of June 2025 should automatically be shifted to Monday, 09th June
2025.
However,
this proposed solution arouses questions within the community as there will be
major clashes with other subjects planned to be written on Monday 09th
June 2025. Will the Cameroon GCE Board modify the timetable or follow the
orders without questioning? Tell us what you think in the comments.
